The Shotgun Challenge:
When I was a teenager, I was at a party and saw this dude poke
a hole in the bottom of his beer can, put it to his mouth and pull the tab. He
chugged that beer down so fast it was amazing that he didn't throw up. So me and
my buddy got a six pack of Miller beer and we each shotgunned three beers. I was very good at this new way of consumption.
Next thing I know, I was feeling pretty good off of three beers.
I couldn't remember a time when only three beers gave me
that kind of rush.
Before long I was able to shotgun a whole twelve pack in under ten minutes. I'm
thirty-nine years old now and I mostly drink micro brews when I'm not drinking bourbon on the rocks, but whenever I drink a Czechoslovakian
pilsner, commonly known as yellow commercial beer (e.g. Bud, Miller, Michelob), I shotgun them.
It is the best way to enjoy a commercial beer. It's not easy and takes practice, but one thing I've learned is that anybody can do it.
Now the Shotgun Challenge is where
you and your buddies get a bunch of beer and you
shotgun them at the same time. The challenge isn't who gets done first with their
individual can. It's more of an endurance challenge because
the guy that finishes his cans the fastest might not be able to chug a whole twelve
pack in this fashion, let alone a case. Even though
shotgunning seems very unresponsible, keep in mind we're all adults.
We make our own choices. Think of it this way:
shotgunning beer is like base jumping -- everybody can do it,
but not everybody should. Know your limits.
